When two generations come together under one roof, it can be difficult to reconcile their styles and memetos into one cohesive home. The key, explains Lee-Ann, is to edit, edit, edit: remove junk, give all furniture and design elements a clear purpose, and bring colours into harmony.

Lee-Ann worked carefully with daughter, mother, and father to build a style that worked for everyone. Funky green walls appealed to the daughter's sensibilities, while mom was reluctant to give up the comfort of her beloved armchairs. These elements were intregrated with a new fireplace mantle, an existing dining room set, and a custom armoir to give a new, integrated look to the family's condo.

Suprisingly enough, the project came together with very little money. Lee-Ann managed to re-use most of the furniture, updating the couches with slipcovers and throws, and repainting and antiquing the dining room set. Paint, primer, glaze, and elbow grease gave the rooms a dramatically new yet harmonious look. Eliminating clutter opened up the rooms, and arranging the furniture into focused and cohesive spaces (sitting area, living room area, dining area) made the space cozy and functional. Considered individually, all these changes are simple; but the net effect is like night and day.

Faced with a cluttered melange of styles, Lee-Ann was able to bring forth a warm, cozy, and welcoming living space. Working closely with and actively listening to each member of the family assured that the resulting home would satisfy all its inhabitants and guests.
